Frequently asked questions
Everything you need to know about Vibbrancy. Can't find what you're looking for?
Getting Started
What is Vibbrancy?
Vibbrancy is a free app built by a small, independent team that includes qualified psychologists and people close to mental health professionals. It helps you check in with how you're feeling, spot patterns over time, and actually understand your emotions better. It's private by default — your data stays on your device — and everything is backed by real psychology research.
How do I log a mood?
Tap the plus button, select an emoji that matches how you feel, and optionally add notes or tags for context. The whole process takes about five seconds. You can also set daily reminders so you never forget to check in.
Do I need to create an account?
No. Vibbrancy works entirely on-device without an account. Your data is stored locally in your browser or on your phone. If you want to sync across devices or back up your data to the cloud, you can optionally create an account later.
What devices does Vibbrancy work on?
It works on any modern browser — phone, tablet, or desktop. We also have native iOS and Android apps for the best mobile experience, including home-screen widgets and health-app integrations.
Features
What are smart insights?
Vibbrancy reads your mood notes to spot emotional themes, recurring triggers, and patterns you might miss on your own. The important bit: it all runs on your device, so your data never gets sent anywhere.
Can I add notes and tags to my entries?
Yes. Every mood entry supports free-text notes and custom tags (like "work," "exercise," or "sleep"). Tags make it easy to filter your history and see how specific activities or contexts affect your mood over time.
What meditations are available?
The Free plan includes three guided meditations for common emotional states. Premium unlocks the full library, which includes sessions for stress, anxiety, focus, gratitude, and sleep — all designed by mental health professionals.
Privacy & Data
Where is my data stored?
By default, everything lives on your device and nowhere else. Nothing gets sent to our servers unless you turn on cloud sync. When sync is on, your data is encrypted both during transfer and while stored — so it stays private even on our end.
Can you see my mood data?
No. We cannot access your local data at all. If you enable cloud sync, your data is stored in our database but we do not read, analyse, or share it. We have no advertising business model — your data is never sold or used for targeting.
How does cloud sync work?
Once you create an account and turn on sync, your entries are sent securely to our servers in the background. Changes sync automatically when you're online. If you go offline, everything queues up and syncs when you get a connection back.
Can I export my data?
Yes. Premium users can export their full mood history in CSV or JSON format at any time. Your data belongs to you.
What happens if I delete the app?
If you only use local storage, deleting the app removes all your data permanently. If you have cloud sync enabled, your data remains safely on our servers and will be restored when you sign back in on any device.
Our Business Model
How does Vibbrancy make money?
Subscriptions. That's it. We offer a small monthly ($4.99/mo) and annual ($39.99/year) Premium plan. We don't run ads, we don't sell your data, and we don't have investors pushing us to monetise you. Our only revenue comes from people who choose to support us — which means our incentives are perfectly aligned with yours.
Do you sell advertising space?
No. Absolutely not. There are no ads anywhere in Vibbrancy — not now, not ever. Ads create a conflict of interest: the app starts serving advertisers instead of you. We chose a subscription model specifically to avoid this.
Do you sell user data?
No. We do not sell, share, rent, or otherwise give your data to anyone. We don't even look at it. Your mood data is either stored locally on your device (default) or encrypted in the cloud if you opt into sync. We have no advertising partners, no data brokers, no third-party analytics on your mood entries.
Who's behind Vibbrancy?
A small, independent company. Our team includes two qualified psychologists, and several of our founders' partners are practising therapists and psychiatrists. We're not a startup chasing a valuation or a corporation with shareholders — we're just a group of people who care about mental health and built something we hope will genuinely help.
Why should I trust that?
Because our business model depends on it. We only make money when you subscribe. If we betrayed your trust, you'd cancel and we'd lose revenue. We don't have investors pushing us to monetise you. Our interests are your interests — we build a great app, you choose to support ongoing development. That's the whole deal.
Why is the subscription so affordable?
We deliberately chose a small monthly and yearly amount to encourage people to support us and the ongoing development of Vibbrancy. We'd rather have a large community of supporters paying a fair price than a small group paying a lot. Mental health tools should be accessible to everyone.
The Science
Is mood tracking actually backed by science?
Definitely. A neuroscientist at UCLA (Dr. Matthew Lieberman) ran brain scan studies and found something simple but powerful: just naming how you feel — saying "I'm anxious" or tapping it in an app — calms down the part of your brain that fires up during stress, and activates the part that helps you think clearly. Scientists call this affect labelling. So every time you log a mood, you're not just keeping a diary — you're genuinely helping your brain shift from reacting to responding. Published in Psychological Science (2007).
What is affect labelling and how does it work?
It's the scientific name for putting feelings into words. Brain scans show that when you name an emotion — even just tapping 'anxious' or 'frustrated' on a screen — the stress centre of your brain quiets down and the part responsible for clear thinking kicks in. So that simple act of picking a mood in the app? It's already helping you feel calmer before you've even finished the check-in.
How does tracking build emotional resilience?
Think about it this way: there's a real difference between feeling "bad" and knowing you're specifically "disappointed" or "overwhelmed." Psychologist Dr. Lisa Feldman Barrett found that people who can make those fine distinctions handle stress better, recover faster, and make better decisions under pressure. She calls it emotional precision, and mood tracking naturally builds this skill — the more you practise noticing exactly how you feel, the better you get at it. Published in Current Directions in Psychological Science (Kashdan, Barrett, & McKnight, 2015).
Are there physical health benefits?
This one surprised us too. Dr. James Pennebaker at UT Austin studied people who regularly wrote about their feelings for over 30 years. His research showed real, measurable health improvements: stronger immune systems, lower blood pressure, and better overall mental health. Turns out, regularly checking in with your emotions is a health habit — like eating well or going for a walk. Detailed in Opening Up by Writing It Down (Pennebaker & Smyth, 2016).
What is the RULER framework?
RULER is a five-step approach to emotional intelligence developed at Yale: Recognise how you feel, Understand why, Label it precisely, Express it, and Regulate your response. It's used in schools and workplaces worldwide, and research shows it genuinely builds self-awareness while reducing anxiety. Vibbrancy's daily check-in walks you through these steps naturally — so you're practising the approach without having to think about it. Published by Brackett et al. (2012), Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence.

Technical
Does Vibbrancy work offline?
Yes. Vibbrancy is built offline-first. All mood logging, history viewing, and on-device smart insights work without an internet connection. You don't even need an account. When you come back online, any entries created offline sync automatically to the cloud (if sync is enabled).
How do health app integrations work?
On iOS, Vibbrancy can read data from Apple Health (steps, sleep, heart rate). On Android, it connects to Google Fit. This lets you see correlations between your physical activity, sleep patterns, and mood — giving you a more complete picture of what affects how you feel. Health integrations are a Premium feature and require explicit permission on your device.
How fast is your support?
We're a small team — one person handles support full-time, with the rest of the team helping out. Premium subscribers typically hear back within 24 hours. Free users can expect a reply within a few days. Either way, you're talking to the people who actually build the app, not a scripted helpdesk.
